Introducing Jim Smith, who works in our Technical team at Glidevale Protect as the Product Technical Performance Manager.
Name: Jim Smith
Job title: Product Technical Performance Manager.
How long have you worked for Glidevale Protect?
Ten months. I started in August 2021.
What are the key aspects of your role?
I’m responsible for the technical performance of the Glidevale Protect range of membranes, as well as our membranes on offer in Europe. I’m involved with everything from new product development, raw materials supply and specification, quality, certification, technical support and production support.
What do you most enjoy about the work that you do?
Variety. Every week there are new and different challenges to overcome and even though I have been in the industry for over ten years, I’m still learning something new every day.
What music do you like listening to?
Primarily rock music, but you’ll find a lot of other genres sneaking into my Spotify playlist, including country and 80’s power ballads.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A lorry driver. My family owned a haulage company when I was younger, so I spent a lot of time out on the road with my dad or older brothers.
Who inspires you?
My mum. I have six brothers and sisters and I don’t know how she did it! I find it hard enough with one!
What TV show are you currently binge-watching?
Parks and Recreation (for the third time!), RuPaul’s Drag Race and Peppa Pig (not my choice!).
Have you ever met anyone famous?
As a kid, I was lucky enough to go to quite a few matchday hospitality games at Everton, so I met various players and managers from the late 90’s, like Duncan Ferguson, Andrei Kanchelskis and Neville Southall.
I can’t get through the week without…
My daily can of Monster energy drink and lots of cuddles with my two year old daughter, Sophia.
Staycation or exotic holiday?
Exotic holiday! The last few years (pre pandemic!) I’ve spent a lot of time exploring the southern states in the USA, travelling around Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas as well as several trips to Las Vegas. Holidays nowadays are more sedate and generally revolve around a swimming pool.
